Dinosnores – bedtime stories that put kids to sleep

One thing that many parents share at some point is a little monkey who won’t go to bed. You may have had a perfect run for months and then it all falls to pieces and it doesn’t matter what you do or say your little one thinks of every excuse under the sun to avoid shutting their eyes and heading off to dreamland. Nothing works…until you get your hands on Dinosnores.

Dinosnores is an award-winning collection of age appropriate stories and soundscapes developed by child language development experts and available on CD from stores in Australia and also on iTunes. The collection includes recordings suitable for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged kids.

Our reviewer, Cooper (4), had the pleasure of experiencing two CDs from the collection. The first; Tyrannosaur; features a comforting male voice narrating the story to the ‘little tyrannosaur’ listening. We first listened to the CD in the car after collecting it from the Post Office and I nearly fell asleep on the way home it was so relaxing. Cooper loved it and that night he happily donned his earphones and iPod when it was time for bed and laid quietly listening to the calming voice. When I went to check on him ten minutes later he was asleep.

The second CD we listened to was Fairy and again it was age appropriate and very relaxing. Again it worked it’s magic and Cooper was asleep when I went to check on him. The Fairy CD features an evening soundscape with a reassuring female voice and as with Tyrannosaur the narrative is directed at the listener. I really found this feature appealing as it was clear that Cooper loved that the voice was talking to him and calling him ‘little fairy’ and discussing his busy day.

As a parent, I definitely recommend Dinosnores and Cooper recommends it too. Even if you don’t have problems getting your kids to bed the CDs are very relaxing and I also played them for Cooper and his two year old brother when I wanted them to have some quiet time. The only negative to share is how difficult it is to remove earphones from your four years old’s ears without waking him up!
